Alcohol Detox Side Effects

Alcohol Detox Side Effects

Alcohol detox side effects can be either physical or psychological.

Various side effects can be associated with alcohol detox.  Even in a safe and effective alcohol detox center, the patient will often have to deal with adverse side effects of alcohol withdrawal during detox.  Unfortunately, the physical withdrawal symptoms that occur when a chronic alcohol abuser quits drinking can be dangerous and even deadly.  Because of these inherent dangers associated with the abrupt elimination of alcohol from the body, it is never advised that an alcohol quit drinking alone.

Physical Alcohol Detox Side Effects

Physically, the alcoholic will feel many side effects when they quit drinking.  During alcohol detox, many of the physical side effects that are felt can be safely and effectively eased with medication or various holistic techniques such as acupuncture, massage or meditation.  The following physical side effects may become present during alcohol detox:

  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Sweating
  • Stomach cramps
  • Headaches
  • Lack of energy
  • Soreness or achiness
  • Cramps
  • Fever
